Who are Podiatrists and Chiropodists?
Podiatrists and Chiropodists are trained in all aspects of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists are medical trained professionals who diagnose and treat the feet and lower limbs without the need for a GP referral.
Podiatrists/Chiropodists are regulated by the Health Professional Council which is the UK regulator currently for 13 health professions. It is an offence to use the title Chiropodist/Podiatrist without being on the HPC register, subject to prosecution or up to a £5000 fine. Podiatrists must adhere to a strict code of ethics, keeping their training and professional standards up to date with CPD (Continued Professional Development), which is now compulsory to remain on the HPC register.
In the same way that we see a Dentist or Optician it is vital that we do not neglect our feet and keep them well maintained with the help of fully trained Podiatrists and Chiropodists. Our feet do a remarkable job in keeping us upright and balanced. They carry us the equivalent of five times around the earth in an average lifetime. Approximately three times our body weight is propelled through our feet during locomotion. In return we normally in case them in shoes and do not take good care of them until they cause us problems.

The HPC have made CPD (continued Professional Development) compulsory for all those on the register. This ensures that your registered professional is fully up to date and uses the latest recommended methods.
